Meet our Camp Chef, Daisy Welch
Originally a high school teacher from Massachusetts, Daisy heard the call of the West and spent the next fifteen years living a wonderfully unconventional life on the road in her Airstream. Along the way, she supported river trips in Big Bend, worked the sugar beet campaign in North Dakota, gardened for an Idaho state park, cleaned trains in California, built homes with Habitat for Humanity in New Mexico, and even ran a post office at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Those years also taught Daisy how to create memorable meals in remote places with limited supplies. Over time, she became a self-taught chef with a particular love for New Mexican and West African flavors—bold, soulful food that feels especially right after a long day outside.
Now retired in Santa Fe and a close friend of the Breaking Away family, Daisy is joining our remote adventures to do what she does best: bring people together around incredible food in extraordinary places. We’re thrilled to have her joining us for the Rio Arriba Rally and future Breaking Away adventures.

What Sets Our Events Apart
01 / Premium Locations
Our events prioritize a great mix of riding, incredible routes and camping locations—so you can focus on the challenges, camaraderie and the epic views.
02 / Experience & Pace
Led by experienced guides who know the routes, the terrain, the what if’s and what to do’s. They set the pace and balance out the riding with group and solo activities.
03 / Community Building
Connection is a core part of the process. You’ll arrive solo and leave with new friends. Our attention to detail and planning allows us to relax off the trail and converse around the fire.
Breaking Away Expeditions are coming soon...
Built for riders who want the adventure without joining a traditional guided tour, each Expedition will feature a carefully scouted GPS route, recommended campsites and lodging, local food and points of interest, bike and skill guidance, and the practical information you need to head out with confidence. You choose when to go, who to ride with, and how quickly you move.
These routes are built from the ground up around the places we love to explore—remote roads, hidden corners, great scenery, and the kind of experiences you usually only find by spending years riding an area. Expect downloadable GPS tracks, detailed route notes, optional pre-trip support, local partnerships, and additional services for riders who want a little more help along the way.
Your trip. Your pace. Our scouting.
