3 Days / 2 Nights • Intermediate+ • Limited to 8–10 Riders

Chef-Prepared Meals • Trail Lunches • Support Vehicle • Backup Motorcycle • VIP Camp Setup

Our most immersive Northern New Mexico adventure of 2026 takes us into Rio Arriba — Spanish for “Upper River.” Historically, the name described the rugged northern country along the upper Rio Grande: a place shaped by mountains, rivers, isolation, deep culture and an independent spirit. It’s hard to imagine a better setting for an adventure.

We begin in Bernalillo and climb into the Jemez Mountains, then work our way north through the red-rock country of Abiquiu and into the river valleys surrounding Chama. By day, we ride remote backroads, forgotten trails and challenging sections of the New Mexico BDR, crossing some of the most spectacular and varied terrain in the Land of Enchantment. Expect sweeping views, dramatic changes in elevation and landscape, and plenty of opportunities to encounter Northern New Mexico wildlife throughout the ride. Each day’s route is designed to cover less than a tank of fuel, with planned fuel stops along the way.

For lunch, we’ll stop on the trail or at iconic local spots, making the food, towns and landscapes of Northern New Mexico part of the experience rather than simply something we ride past.

By evening, the bikes are parked and the campfire is burning. Grab a drink, watch the sun disappear behind the mountains and let our support crew take care of the rest. You’ll ride light each day while our support truck carries your luggage and camp gear, assists with camp setup, provides water and useful camp supplies, and keeps support close at hand. We prepare hot breakfasts and dinners at camp and even bring a backup motorcycle in case somebody’s trip tries to end early.

This isn’t a big rally. It’s a small group sharing three days in a remarkable corner of New Mexico — riding hard, eating well, sitting around the fire and coming home with a few stories worth keeping.

Small group. Big enchantment.

YOU BRING

A street-legal adventure or dual-sport motorcycle capable of highway speeds with a minimum 125-mile fuel range, plus your tent/sleeping system, camp chair and personal gear.

Intermediate+ means you should be comfortable riding an adventure motorcycle on dirt, gravel, loose surfaces and varied technical terrain. 50/50 or more dirt-oriented tires are strongly recommended.

WE PROVIDE

Curated GPS & guided routes • Trail assistance & riding tips • Beautiful dispersed campsites • Gear & luggage transportation • Support vehicle • Backup motorcycle • Water & useful camp supplies • Chef-prepared breakfasts & dinners • Trail & destination lunches • Campfires • Breaking Away event shirt & goodies

Not included: motorcycle fuel, additional alcoholic beverages beyond those provided at camp, and transportation to/from the starting point.

Everything is designed so you can spend less time worrying about logistics and more time experiencing Northern New Mexico the way it should be — from the seat of an adventure motorcycle.

Meet our Camp Chef, Daisy Welch

Originally a high school teacher from Massachusetts, Daisy heard the call of the West and spent the next fifteen years living a wonderfully unconventional life on the road in her Airstream. Along the way, she supported river trips in Big Bend, worked the sugar beet campaign in North Dakota, gardened for an Idaho state park, cleaned trains in California, built homes with Habitat for Humanity in New Mexico, and even ran a post office at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Those years also taught Daisy how to create memorable meals in remote places with limited supplies. Over time, she became a self-taught chef with a particular love for New Mexican and West African flavors—bold, soulful food that feels especially right after a long day outside.

Now retired in Santa Fe and a close friend of the Breaking Away family, Daisy is joining our remote adventures to do what she does best: bring people together around incredible food in extraordinary places. We’re thrilled to have her joining us for the Rio Arriba Rally and future Breaking Away adventures.

Well, we’ve done it. We made it FIVE YEARS!

The Misfits Adventure Rally Vol. 5 is heading back to Hollister Hills SVRA, April 15–18, 2027, and our fifth anniversary is not going to be a party you want to miss. What started as a gathering of riders looking for something a little different has grown into five years of motorcycles, friendships, campfire stories, and one of the most welcoming groups of Misfits you’ll find anywhere.

For Vol. 5, we’re keeping the things that have made Misfits special while seriously upping the ante. Expect small- and big-bike training, guided rides, GPS tracks, the Misfits Challenge Course, games, competitions, raffles, awards, and plenty of surprises built specifically for the fifth anniversary. Whether you’re coming to sharpen your skills, explore Hollister Hills, challenge yourself, meet other riders, or just spend a long weekend surrounded by motorcycles and good people, there will be plenty going on from the time you arrive until the last bike heads home.

Registration is $445 per rider and includes the full four-day Misfits experience.

Our events prioritize a great mix of riding, incredible routes and camping locations—so you can focus on the challenges, camaraderie and the epic views.

02 / Experience & Pace

Led by experienced guides who know the routes, the terrain, the what if’s and what to do’s. They set the pace and balance out the riding with group and solo activities.

03 / Community Building

Connection is a core part of the process. You’ll arrive solo and leave with new friends. Our attention to detail and planning allows us to relax off the trail and converse around the fire.

Breaking Away Expeditions are coming soon...

Built for riders who want the adventure without joining a traditional guided tour, each Expedition will feature a carefully scouted GPS route, recommended campsites and lodging, local food and points of interest, bike and skill guidance, and the practical information you need to head out with confidence. You choose when to go, who to ride with, and how quickly you move.

These routes are built from the ground up around the places we love to explore—remote roads, hidden corners, great scenery, and the kind of experiences you usually only find by spending years riding an area. Expect downloadable GPS tracks, detailed route notes, optional pre-trip support, local partnerships, and additional services for riders who want a little more help along the way.

Your trip. Your pace. Our scouting.
